Wythenshawe Vets Over-35s are situated in south Manchester and play in the Cheshire Veterans League Premier Division.

Collectively, the former top-flight players have claimed 15 big honors and moved for total transfer sums of approximately £123m.

Famous Figures and International Players

Ireland began turning out for the team during pre-season this summer through good mate and present Wythenshawe teammate Blake Norton, and the ex- Irish player then invited additional former professionals, who all play in a midweek small-sided game, to participate.

Ex- Senegal forward Oumar Niasse, who netted 12 scores in 65 top-flight matches for the Toffees and still attends their home games, also had his debut against Collegiate OB - who are based in Liverpool and use an Blue training kit as their uniform.

"My friend Stephen Ireland said 'join and play, it's a laugh'," said Niasse.

"The fans who turn up and watch are pleased and to make a day if they see us competing there and to ask us questions - it's more like the joy of us getting somewhere we can enjoy football, with organisation of course."

So great is the squad depth at the club, he made his debut at full-back.

"It's a little unusual but then, I enjoy running and just move forward - I'm not staying back that much," he said.

"I tell my centre-back 'I'm not staying' and that I'm just going to continue attacking.

"That movement is what I'm after. It's enjoyable."

Unreal Experience

Along with the forward's six scores on debut, Stephen Ireland has netted eight in 3 games for Wythenshawe, while Boyd scored 5 on his debut match and Joleon Lescott, a defender by trade, scored a triple in one game as a striker.

The team are top of the Premier Division with 3 wins from three and a GD of plus nineteen.

Paul Barrow, 38, who features on the flank for the opposition, came up against former Latics defender Maynor Figueroa on the weekend - and had to explain his nine-year-old son who Heskey was.

He has appeared at two global tournaments for Honduras, in as well as featuring in more than 200 Premier League matches.

"It was going round like a rumor they had these ex-Premier League players," remarked Barrow.

"I felt I was a bit starstruck playing against him to be honest.

"Also Emile [Heskey] came on and he's has over 60 England caps.

"Our side held our own for a good 20 mins but then we had a man sent off and it was tough.

"We literally have not ceased talking about it - I was calling my mother and sibling on the way home.

"They were all really nice, shaking our hands after the game - it was like playing a group of normal guys.

"Now we can't wait for the return match."
