Ten individuals found guilty of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of French President, Emmanuel Macron.
The defendants faced allegations of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to making defamatory statements about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The complete verdict has not yet been published.
A circulating unfounded claim suggesting that Brigitte Macron is a trans woman has been in circulation since her husband's rise to the presidency in 2017.
This recent ruling in France is concurrent with the Macrons engaging in a defamation lawsuit in the United States of America against right-wing influencer Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the French president's wife's gender.
Their lawsuit contends that Owens brushed aside any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has frequently reiterated these claims on her podcast and social media channels, and in March 2024 stated that she would risk all her credibility on her belief that Mrs. Macron was born a man.
Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she taught at his high school.
The two entered into matrimony in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
